What is Remedial Massage Therapy?
Remedial massage incorporates the assessment and manipulation of muscles and other soft tissues of the body, with the purpose of establishing and maintaining good physical condition. Regular remedial massage helps maintain optimal physical condition during the performance of everyday activity, be it work or recreation, and reduce the potential for injury.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is using an understanding of the layers of the body to relax, lengthen and release holding patterns in the most effective way possible. It helps with chronic muscular pain and injury rehabilitation, and reduces inflammation-related pain caused by arthritis and tendinitis.
Myofascial Release Techniques
These techniques involve the hands-on application of slow, gentle and prolonged force in the form of stretching or compression, to allow the release of tension in skeletal muscles. It can be used within a wide range of therapeutic contexts, within an integrative context to create a better balance within the human structure, as well as within a remedial context for treating connective tissue fixations.
Trigger Point Therapy
This treatment approach is effective for the relief and control of specific myofascial pain and dysfunction. The goal of this form treatment is to “turn off” the trigger point by using digital compression, thereby removing pain and returning the muscle to normal flexibility and motor function. Success is measured by the level of pain reduction experienced by the client, and through increased range of motion, strength, endurance, and other measures of improved function.
Sports Massage
Sports massage is quite simply the science and art of applying therapeutic massage and related techniques to ensure the health and wellbeing of athletes and to enhance athletic performance and recovery. Sports massage incorporates pre and post event work, maintenance massage and rehabilitation therapy.
